Airbrush Tanning Is Safe and Effective

Most people today agree that traditional tanning in the sun is no longer a good idea. The sun’s UV rays are just too dangerous for the majority of the population, particularly in the US. Northern and Western European heritage creates light skin and eyes that are prone to severe burning and skin cancers that are excellent reasons to avoid prolonged sun exposure. However, you may not be one of those people who likes the pale look. For people like you, airbrush tanning is the perfect answer.

In airbrush tanning, a technician applies a special solution to your skin. The solution’s active ingredient, DiHydroxyAcetone (DHA), binds to your skin to create an effect very similar to that which occurs in natural tanning. The skin undergoes a bronzing effect that gives it the ultimate tan shade. When a spray tan in applied through airbrush techniques, an initial tanning shade is provided to the skin that washes off within about 12 hours after it’s applied. The underlying skin retains the tanned appearance for several days, much as it would with a natural tan.

For most people, airbrush tanning can be accomplished by using an airbrush machine that can be large or a small portable model. It can take under half an hour to apply the spray tan, including drying time. The machine combines a high volume of air with a low amount of pressure to spray the tanning solution evenly over the body. The tanning solution can vary from light to very dark shades. DHA has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for cosmetic use, and is certified to be non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. Tanning through the use of sprays has been endorsed by the American Cancer Society and the American Medical Association (AMA).

During the spray tanning process, you should wear dark clothing that covers the areas you don’t want to tan. Deodorant and makeup affect the skin adversely when sprayed, son avoid them. Once the airbrush tanning is completed, it usually lasts about a week or slightly longer, but can be extended by several days if you use moisturizer twice a day. You shouldn’t shower for eight hours after the tan in applied so that it can develop fully. It’s best to avoid baths or chlorinated swimming pools while you have a spray tan so that it won’t prematurely fade. It’s recommended that you get a spray tan no more than once a week.
