What To Do In Medellin For One Day
22 December 2011
Spending a few days in Medellin or any city for that matter is always the best thing for travelers. But if you don’t have much time to spare, one day is enough to explore the city’s best tourist spots. Before you head to Medellin, make sure that you get enough rest because your itinerary will be jam packed with things to do.
If you can, you should get to Medellin by 7 or 8am so you can tour around the city’s churches. Churches in Medellin are usually open early in the morning. One of the churches you must visit is La Veracruz, a colonial church which dates back to 1682. Another one is La Candelaria at Parque de Berrio. A trip to La Candelaria would be like hitting two birds with a stone because the famous Fat Woman sculpture is just nearby. But a church you can’t miss is Parque de Bolivar’s Metropolitan Cathedral.
By 10am, you can then proceed to Museo de Antioquia. It is a contemporary art museum which showcases art by the likes of Fernando Botero, a famed local sculptor. One of the best things to do in Medellin is take pictures of Botero’s sculpture right outside the museum. It’s a great way to appreciate local art and culture without having to pay for the entrance fee at the museum! It’s still best that you spend your next two hours exploring the insides of the museum though.
After having lunch at any local restaurant of your choice, you can spend the rest of your afternoon relaxing at city parks like Jardin Botanico and Parque de los Deseos. The rest of your evening should be dedicated for dining, shopping, and Medellin nightlife which is why you need to rest. If you don’t like city parks, you can visit other Medellin attractions instead like Pueblito Paisa.
